In another impressive performance, Argentina women’s team registered a 2-1 win over hosts Germany in an FIH Pro League (W) 2021-22 match on May 21. The Argentinians dominated the entire contest and kept the German defence under sustained pressure. The hosts were able to launch regular counter-attacks but without success.

Argentina had to work hard against the tight marking of the Germans and their crowded defence. Still, they managed to come through with a well-deserved win.

Argentina were on the attack from the start of the game. Victoria Granatto had a brilliant run into the circle, slicing through the defence, in the first quarter. Even though it didn’t produce a goal, it showed the prowess of the front line that the visitors had.

Germany, to their credit, didn’t just sit back in defence. They launched regular counter-attacks whenever they got the opportunity. Occasionally, these counter-attacks came close to earning a goal also.

Argentina broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 21st minute thanks to a brilliant strike from Eugenia Trinchinetti. She ran down the left side of the pitch and then, from a very acute angle, took a shot towards the goal which managed to find its way into the goal despite hitting the goalkeeper’s pads.

Viktoria Huse equalized for Germany through a penalty corner in the 41st minute. This happened in a second-half where the Germans were able to pose a tougher challenge to their opponents.

Still, Argentina were continuing to knock on the door of the German goal and a PC in the 51st minute helped them regain the lead. It was Agustina Gorzelany whose drag-flick did the job for them.

The remaining nine minutes saw the Argentinians holding fort and ensuring that there were no late hiccups. They managed to get the full points from this game and once again, show that they are one of the best teams in the world.
